It’s very difficult to pinpoint my ‘favourite’ travel memory. Travel has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Each and every travel experience of mine has shaped me up bit by bit to who I am today. So, it’s difficult to pinpoint at any one travel experience and call it my ‘favourite’. However, couple of years back, I took my first ever trip to South America and that is an experience, which is etched in my heart a tad more deeper than the others for numerous reasons.

Having lived all my life in India, I have come across very few people who travelled to countries in South America. Mostly people spoke about visiting picturesque countries of Europe and national parks of USA along with some jungles of Africa among the continents other than Asia. So, the very idea of travelling to Peru, for me was pushing myself out of my comfort zone in every possible way. Multiple layovers, long flights to the tune of 10-11 hours and almost 34 hours of travel were just the starters. I transited through two different continents to be here in yet another continent where everything seems to have a different flavour. The capital city of Lima by the vast Pacific Ocean greeted me with sleepy eyes at the crack of the dawn and what later followed was a dream lived with eyes open!!

A desert with an oasis neatly tucked away in its heart, a tryst with the sea lions, stealing glimpses of penguins, an active volcano with snow flakes all around, one of the deepest canyons of the world, one of the world wonders – Machu Picchu, the majestic yet rustic ruins and deep seated traditions of the Inca civilisation, the highest navigable lake (Lake Titicaca) of the world and then crossing the land borders and walking in to the neighbouring country, Bolivia – all of it were the firsts in my life.
