There are only 50kms length of roads in entire Sva There are only 50kms length of roads in entire Svalbard. And there are 4 signs within the city that reads “ Going beyond the point without licensed gun is off limits - Polar bear alert “.

Therefore majority of the population in Svalbard have licensed guns for personal safety. This doesn’t mean they shoot the moment they spot a polar bear.

People of Svalbard believe that the Artics belong to the Polar bears and us humans are living in their land. Therefore they are very serious in preserving their land. If one spots a Polar bear; the first thing they do is try to scare them off. If the polar bear returns they again try all measures to scare him off. If and only if a human life is in unavoidable danger one can fire the gun although a proper explanation should be given if the gun is used.
The last incident of killing of a Polar bear happened in 2017 when the bear returned thrice even after scaring him off and was shot from a distance of 2m in self defence.
What is a city if you don’t have a favourite str What is a city if you don’t have a favourite street in it !!

When it comes to Kolkata - Park street and specially this junction of Park Street is where we keep coming back.
There are so many memories in this junction !!

1. The diagonally opposite corner has the iconic @petercatcalcutta whose Chelo Kababs is an absolute must have.
Also in the same corner, there is @flurysindia - the go to breakfast place for any visitors.
And the white building of Stephan House, carrying scars of tragic fire incident of 2010

2. To the corner in the left, there is a KFC, where I (Arka) had my first taste of Fried Chicken and probably the KFC shop I visited most

3. To the corner in the right, there is @mocambocalcutta , another signature place to have lunch/dinner and spend quality time with your loved ones

Can’t remember any junction that gives so much nostalgic feels like this.

Do you also have a favourite street in your city?

One of the most unusual attractions in Kolkata is One of the most unusual attractions in Kolkata is the abandoned South Park Street Cemetery.

It’s a hidden secret amongst the bigger attractions of Kolkata. Now a heritage site and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Most of the tombs in the South Park Street Cemetery are aesthetically beautiful and very attractive.

This gothic graveyard was established in the 18th century and was used for British officers and their families
The cemetery was opened in 1767 to take off some load of the old Burial Ground in Kolkata

The cemetery is very well-maintained and has spacious pavilions lined with tall green trees and monuments for the dead. South Park Street Cemetery has a melancholic charm that cannot be missed.

Opening Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Entry Fee: INR 30 (DSLR charges extra)
