We have always travelled to experience the world. From walking miles in the lost of city of Petra to deep diving under the ocean in crystal waters of Philippines, still the high-altitude trekking in Himalayas is what remains closest to our hearts
This high-altitude trek for the Roopkund lake that goes through the dense forests of Ghairoli, alpine meadows of Ali and Bedni Bugyal, steep climbs at Kalu Vinayak, windiest campsite of Bhagwabasa and finally the gruesome climb to the summit, tests your mental rigidity to a level you can not think of.
All of this for what? To see something that words cant describe, to see nature at its utmost beauty โ raw and surreal. To live for the moment no questions asked.

Not all trekking is easy. Specially the high-altitude ones. It takes good amount of climbing, walking, precautions and a lot of other things to be able to do it. More than anything else, the will power to summit plays the most important role. The point is, unless you push yourself and test your limits, you donโt know how far you can go.
Having said that, we have 10 reasons why you should go trekking in Himalayas at least once in your lifeย

Camp in the clouds
Miles away from the city, nestled amidst dense forests and towering mountains, camping in the open is one hell of an experience. We still remember our first campsite during our Roopkund Trek โ 10,000 ft above, in the lap of nature, it was one of the most memorable moments of our life.

Spotting the milky way
Gone are those days when the sky was clear enough to spot stars. The city life seldom allows us to admire the twinkling of these celestial beauties. Imagine standing in a vast meadow, pitch dark and millions of stars shining bright right above. You can actually spot the milky way and see shooting stars. We love to spend hours just lying down star gazing. These are the moments we long for. These are the moments that make you believe that the real beauty lies in nature.

Man is a social animal. Always busy! We slog ourselves day and night for money, career, family, responsibilities, friends and what not. ย But how many of us make it a point to disconnect and give time to ourselves. Its important to take a break from our daily routine and spend time relaxing. A trek in the Himalayas may be a perfect opportunity to sort things out in life as it gives you ample time, experiences and lessons to ponder, sometimes giving a new meaning to life altogether.

New experiences
We had never used any ice gear, spikes & gaiters before, had never slept in a tent at such an high altitude, had never walked for so long, had never been without not bathing for days, had never climbed steep rocks and the list goes on. So many firsts. Trekking is not an everyday thing neither it is like a normal vacation, there are so many new things we learn on the go, so many new experiences. If not for anything else, try trekking for such maiden experiences.

Push your limits
Trekking is not easy. It requires a lot of effort and determination. Unless you do it, you wouldnโt know your limits. Push yourself in order to understand how far you can go. How strong your will power is, areas you need to work on, things youโre good at. Trekking allows you to become fitter and stronger both physically and mentally.
Challenge yourself
Trekking is hands down challenging. Not just physically but mentally as well. One needs to be prepared and be ready to overcome challenges. It will not just make you face your biggest fear but also teach you how to overcome it. We still remember standing at Patar Nachuni, the windiest campsite in the entire trek with Kalu Vinayak right in front. Near 45-degree uphill peak looked seriously daunting. First time in the trek the idea of offloading crossed our mind.
These are the moments that truly defines a trek. When it goes beyond scenic, breathtaking landscapes and start testing your mental rigidity. When it starts giving you an opportunity to feel “Yes, I also can!!”

Roopkund Trek
See an awesome sunset
Trekking in Himalayas at high altitudes treats you with views one can only dream off. Cause of the altitude and efforts by government these days to protect these virgin areas, treks are not overcrowded and hence unlimited access to the raw beauty of nature โ untouched and pure. If you ask us two things we remember from our Roopkund trek, it would be the surreal experience of seeing the sun setting behind Mt.Trishul and that barefoot walk on the meadows of Ali and Bedni Bugyal!! As we left our camp at Gharoli the forest started becoming thinner finally opening up to the mesmerising, breath-taking, mind-blowing alpine meadows. Standing at more than 11000 feet, it is the largest and greenest carpet you will ever walk on seeing the most beautiful sunset of your lives. Wouldn’t you choose to stay in a hut like this that lays acres and acres of green under your feet and snow-capped mountains in front of your eyes !!!

Sense of achievement
The joy of summitting, the feeling of being able to achieve something that looked so daunting but at the same time breathtakingly beautiful is beyond words. The day we started our final ascend towards the Roopkund lake, not once but the question that why did we even come here popped in our heads many a times, but the moment we summitted every inch of our soul went fresh and ecstatic. The final 4 hours of our Roopkund summit was the most thrilling, grueling, physically demanding 4 hours of our lives.Climb, climb and climb !! Slippery ice, narrow ridges, near vertical slopes, did it all!! After couple of hours the morning ray started rising from the horizon and god knows why but we felt better. Last one hour was absolute mental, after every 3-4 steps we had to stop for breath, bone chilling wind and -10-degree temperature forced us to question ourselves – why did we even sign up for this!! But yes, we got our answer after the last climb, it was the majestic Roopkund Lake right there downslope in front of our eyes. WE MADE IT!! And we did it in style. In that godly hours of dawn, the lake, surrounding snowfields and the mountains were creating an unearthly ambience! The sense of accomplishment that you get is unimaginable.

Evolve
Trust us when we say that you would come back a different person after walking barefoot in the largest and greenest carpet that earth itself provides, that you would come back a different person after seeing the sun rising unfiltered over the horizon, that you would come back a different person with nothing to complain and in awe of nature. You would come back rejuvenated and evolved.
Finally,
Think of how many plans you made that you missed, all the should haves, could haves and would haves, trips that you cancelled, ideas you shunned away โ Now is the time, give life a chance, and walk down the mountains. cut down the monotony of life, give yourself some time alone, feel the rush, test your fitness, give yourself to mother nature and come back stronger than ever. Trekking in Himalayas is not lavish but it for sure is an eye opener. Itโs a challenge and its beautiful.
